Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH2 小评测A Little Review of the Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH2

First off, this router was received for me by my esteemed grandmother. Thanks~

Second, Japanese-brand design really is something else: clean, tasteful, good-looking. And once more, a jab at the marquee light show on Netgear’s JNR series

Third, routers seem to get more rip-off-y with every upgrade, so if there’s a first edition, buy the first edition. Though I don’t know where the rip-off is exactly, word is the materials got worse. Honestly I couldn’t tell

Alright, here comes the main text

You can’t use this router by plugging it straight in; you have to install the software bundled on the CD first. If you don’t have an optical drive, you can download the newer software from the official site

Actually, the router’s settings interface doesn’t seem very friendly toward Chrome (or is it some extension I installed?), with many pages failing to render

And actually, about this interface… this interface… Buffalo, do your UI engineers eat shit, eat shit, to have made it this unusable!!! And ugly too!! Even third-party DDWRT looks better and works better, holy shit!!

(P.S. I’ve discovered the DDWRT interface ships preinstalled for European and American users, while the stock firmware ships preinstalled for Asian users. Japan, playing the discrimination game again?)

The setup is super complicated… I studied AOSS for ages and found it doesn’t seem as convenient as just restricting MAC addresses directly. Not that our home has many devices anyway

The signal is so-so; wall penetration is not great

Anyway, that’s about it. If anything else comes to mind I’ll write more

In any case, three-hundred-odd kuai for a good-looking router is worth it no matter what. Life in the looks-first party is truly beautiful
