整个周末我都在思索冬天的表达式，这很容易，冰雪堆积的树，阴冷的天空，低温，雪花，等等。这些只属于冬，让人们认识到冬天的样子，年复一年。尽管每个细节都从未相同，但是他们足够相似，让我们足以区分。
忽然想到冬天的树，看到了它就看到他所代表的，像个符号，象征着冬天。大自然周而复始，而我们的认知让它成为真实，并给与了它真实世界意义。

All weekend I mulled over the expression of winter. It’s easy enough: trees piled with ice and snow, a cold gloomy sky, low temperatures, snowflakes, and so on. These belong to winter alone; they let people recognize what winter looks like, year after year. Though no detail is ever quite the same, they are similar enough for us to tell the season apart.
Then it struck me: the winter tree. To see it is to see what it stands for, like a sign, a symbol of winter. Nature cycles round and round, and it is our perception that makes it real, that grants it meaning in the real world.
