Seven Times My Heart Has Grieved
第一次,当它本可进取时,却故作谦卑;
第二次,当它在空虚时,用爱欲来填充;
第三次,在困难和容易之间,它选择了容易;
第四次,它犯了错,却借由别人也会犯错来宽慰自己;
第五次,它自由软弱,却把它认为是生命的坚韧;
第六次,当它鄙夷一张丑恶的嘴脸时,却不知那正是自己面具中的一副;
The first time, when it could have pressed forward, yet it feigned humility;
The second time, when it was empty, it filled itself with lust and longing;
The third time, between the hard and the easy, it chose the easy;
The fourth time, it did wrong, yet consoled itself that others do wrong as well;
The fifth time, it was weak by its own choice, yet took that weakness for the tenacity of life;
The sixth time, when it scorned an ugly face, not knowing that face was one of its own masks;
The seventh time, it settled into the mire of life; not resigned to it, yet cowering all the same.
The happy life I can imagine
Has no long stretch of soundless dark
Days joyful and wide awake, nights of quiet sleep
At every moment currents of heart being exchanged
No one anywhere enduring loneliness
Living in such a country
Even without boundless coastlines, forests or fields of wheat
There are gardens everywhere all the same
People tear off their thousand masks and coverings
And laugh with abandon
The streets everywhere are full of warm-hearted souls
Not scarce at all, verging on overflowing
Everyone caring for everyone
A gaze and a smile in passing
What is it, to be on one’s guard?
No one knows
My family, living the life closest to life
Safe meals, sturdy shelter
No watching for danger, no worry of illness
Doors wide open, roads running clear, a park right at the window
Children can see rainbows, dragonflies and dandelions
Cars slow down for them
Teachers teach them freedom
Even losing the way alone at night, no one goes missing
The road home can always be found
Home is always there, it never moves away
Never flustered
Under any circumstances
Never flustered
Life has never once produced the situation called:
“I have so many things I need to do,
but I don’t know what comes next”
No trembling unease over any standstill
Never comparing
The beloved is everlasting, blazing, deep in devotion
Found at first seeking, hand in hand into old age
He draws near, and you know he understands you
He goes away, and you know he misses you
With a silent gaze, or with sweet words
A long embrace, or the light brush of lips
Keeping two hearts close, and love at its constant warmth, always
There is little that money can buy
For spending cannot produce a lasting joy
That momentary rapture
Always trailed by the letdown of a wish too easily granted
Holds no appeal whatsoever
No one cares for it
What we call faith is not idol worship in any form
But one creed of values and of conduct held in common
All things bending toward the good
Everyone carries a dream born with them
Written on their identity papers
Never to be altered by the opinions of others
The wellspring of all excitement and all striving
The greatest joy is to witness a dream come true
The greatest evil is to keep another from reaching theirs
The bastards who block a dream’s fulfillment receive the harshest punishment
Sentenced to the destruction of their own dream
The equal of being denied a good death
Everyone, in the end, fulfills the dream they were born with
Just as everyone, in the end, must die
It is a part that belongs to the closing of a life
So that the long sleep of all the kind-hearted
Is held in a happiness beyond reproach
