I Like You the Very Most, Midori
“I like you the very most, Midori.”
“How much is that?”
“The way one likes a bear in spring.”
“A bear in spring?” Midori lifted her face again. “What bear in spring?”
“You’re walking alone through a meadow in spring, and toward you comes an adorable little bear, its fur like velvet all over, its eyes round and bulging. And it says to you: ‘Hello, miss, would you roll around and play with me?’ So you and the little bear hold each other tight and go tumbling down a slope covered in clover, and you play the whole day long. Isn’t that wonderful?”
“Wonderful.”
“That’s how much I like you.”
