有趣是第一生产力Being Interesting Is the Primary Productive Force

我年纪还轻，不敢轻言品位二字，只是想提取一些生活中遇到的那些感觉“有品”的前辈的一些特征，我不多说，说一下我的感受。
我所观察到有品位男人的最高体现，私认为是五个字——分寸与克制。
这种品质非一定见识与思考沉淀之后不能体现。
我见过周游世界的大叔侃侃而谈哪里的什么建筑如何如何精妙，什么什么音乐如何美妙，什么什么经历如何奇妙等等，全然不顾大家已经疲惫的神情。
也见过青年才俊在饭桌上对一个社会问题激情昂扬，指点江山。搞得大家吃饭都不顺心。
某位做奢侈品的朋友很喜欢对别人的手表和包做出自己的评判，常常搞得对方很尴尬，私认为不算有品的行为。
凡是在不恰当的场合或者不恰当的对象前盲目展现自己，不懂克制自己的优越感与资源优势的，都很难称之为有品位。
分寸，就是对问题恰如其分的回应，多一分，腻；少一分，冷。
克制，是在明白生命无常之后对自我的控制，与对生命不同形态的宽容。
雄鹰自有雄鹰的疆场，何必飞入麻雀的山林故展雄姿。
优秀的人已经得到别人内心的认同，无需再求他人无言的自卑。

I am still young and dare not speak lightly of the word taste; I only want to draw out a few traits of those elders met in life who gave me the feeling of “having class.” I will not say much, just my impressions.
The highest expression of a man of taste that I have observed is, in my private view, five characters: proportion and restraint.
This quality cannot show itself except after a certain depth of experience and settled thought.
I have seen a globe-trotting uncle holding forth on how exquisite the architecture is in this place, how wonderful the music in that, how marvelous such-and-such an experience, and so on, wholly blind to the weariness on everyone’s faces.
I have also seen a promising young talent at the dinner table, all passion over some social issue, lecturing on the affairs of the land, souring the meal for the whole company.
A certain friend in the luxury-goods business is fond of passing his own judgments on other people’s watches and bags, often leaving them acutely embarrassed; not, to my mind, conduct that shows class.
Anyone who blindly puts themselves on display at the wrong occasion or before the wrong audience, who does not know how to rein in their sense of superiority and their advantage in resources, can hardly be called a person of taste.
Proportion is the response that fits the matter exactly: one measure more is cloying; one measure less is cold.
Restraint is the mastery of self that comes after one understands the impermanence of life, and a tolerance for life’s different forms.
The eagle has its own battlefield; why fly into the sparrow’s woods to strike a soaring pose.
A truly excellent person has already won others’ inward recognition, and has no need to seek their wordless self-abasement.
