坐在 Tahoe 看湖

八月的 Tahoe，连椅子都摆得很有道理。窗边一张，沙滩上几张，松树底下还有。湖这么大，看它倒用不着一直走。

室内的座位讲究一点，靠着窗，配好软垫，太阳把窗框的影子投到地毯上。咖啡店就简单得多，几张小圆桌挨着玻璃门，外面亮得晃眼，里面还留着阴影。到了这种地方，星巴克也挺像那么回事。

湖水从岸边浅浅的绿，一直蓝到对面的山脚下。树缝里看下去，划艇小得几乎只剩几笔颜色。沙滩上的人准备得更充分，蓝白条纹的伞撑开，旁边停着装东西的小拖车，人坐在底下。

湖边的草地上又是另一套。两把椅子并排朝着湖，旁边的野餐桌摆在树荫里，长长的，够坐下一大家子。这里的夏天看着就很容易过，带点吃的，找个地方放下。桌子都已经有了。

In August at Tahoe, the chairs all seem sensibly placed. One by a window, a few on the beach, more beneath the pines. It is a big lake, but looking at it needn’t involve walking the whole time.

The indoor seats are a little more elaborate, with cushions by the window and the window frame casting its shadow across the carpet. The café keeps things simpler. Small round tables beside the glass door, bright sunshine outside, some shade left inside. In a setting like this, even Starbucks looks rather good.

The water goes from pale green along the shore to blue all the way to the mountains opposite. Seen through the trees, the kayaks are scarcely more than strokes of color. The people on the beach have come better equipped. A blue-and-white striped umbrella is open, a wagon for their things parked beside it, someone sitting underneath.

The lakeside lawn offers something else. Two chairs face the lake side by side. Nearby, a long picnic table sits in the shade, with room for a whole family. Summer looks easy enough here. Bring something to eat and find somewhere to put it. The tables are already there.
