Yosemite National Park
A name too pretty, and a park too full

On a Sunday in early June we decided to drive into Yosemite Valley. The snowmelt was still coming down from the high country and the falls were running full; plenty of cloud, good light. A good day for one of the Bay Area’s three great clichés.

The trees are green, the sun is gentle, the parking lot has room left in it. Park the car, walk a stretch of trail, drive on to the next spot. That is the rhythm of a national park in summer: drive, park, walk, sunshine; the proportions depend on the day.

Kids just let out for the summer are running around everywhere, but… let’s say they count as part of the experience.
Move the camera a little, though, and the frame holds nothing but nature: granite, conifers, water blown into mist. A national park like this is just right.
